Permitted work was created by jamesy
Hi, can anyone advise on the correct procedure for thinking about participating in permitted work whether it be on a voluntary or paid basis I'm currently in the support group with mental health issues my GP thinks this willl help my health, if I were to try and do some work would the DWP take the type of work I was doing into consideration when deciding the outcome of any future medical assessment , also would I most likely be sent a ES50 sooner rather than later if I did start some non paid voluntary work, thanks for reading this

Hi Jamesy

Please see the guide regarding permitted work from the link below.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/work

The DWP and Atos always take the work you are doing into consideration for an assessment. That's not to say that you will be found fit for work, but it can make the WCA harder to pass.

I was on permitted work from 2006 until the summer last year. I had to stop because my health deteriorated. I was essentially pursuing a hobby and making very little money, well below the £20 limit per week before it would affect my benefits. I believe that because I had this hobby, then the DWP think it makes me fit for work, even though they haven't got a clue about any of the conditions I suffer from. I would take advice and tread carefully here.

Best wishes

I have Mental Health issues too - but was successfully migrated to ESA from long term IB and put into the Support Group, even though I do 3 hours very flexible Permitted Work each week.I told the DWP in great detail what I do and showed that this work does not conflict with any desciptors I hoped to score points on.

My husband Jim was allowed to do 'permitted paid work' as the Disability Member of DLA Tribunals whilst in receipt of IB, without losing any IB, but only for 1 day per week. This could be one full day, or 2 half days.

This isn't covered in our guide, nor can I find that it has been repealed, so assume it still applies. If anyone knows any different, then please feell free to correct me.
