AGE LIMIT FOR WRAG? was created by pilotman
I am 64 in March 2012 and was in the Support Group for 12 mths (without a "medical") but have now (bizarrely) been placed in WRAG (following a "medical"). Have I read anywhere that someone in their 60's shouldn't be put in WRAG? Or have I dreamt it (it would, in one way, be good if I'd dreamt it because it would mean I'd actually got some sleep one night!! (Don't sleep well).
Can anyone help, please?

Hi PM,

As ESA is a working age benefit, a claimant could be in receipt of ESA in either group, WRAG or SG until they reach State Pension Age, see the SPA Calculator here :

pensions-service.direct.gov.uk/en/state-...-calculator/home.asp

It was reported in the press regarding people in their 60's etc, but I think that we all know not to believe all that we read in the newspapers.

There is an exemption for claimants being transferred over to ESA, see here :

Who will be transferred?

However, it would appear that you were not a transferee.

Hi PM,

Like you, my State Pension Age is before 6th April 2014 and I am in the WRAG. That means that we can still be called in for "assessments" until we retire and also people on Contribution-Based WRAG will have their benefits means-tested after 12 months. People of our age on Incapacity Benefit are exempt from all this harassment. Doesn't seem right, somehow, does it? Same circumstances, different rules.

Grasping at straws I know, but if true, would let me off the hook!

Not funny trying to find work when you'rein your 60s, but then, that's probably the idea, a large pool of people to exploit on silly wages
