DLA medical examination was created by Feelinghopeless
I read a comment on this site recently that most DLA claims and renewals were subject to a medical examination nowadays. I thought that this was only in rare cases. I have been on DLA for two years with a mental illness and my renewal claim form has been sent off (deadline April 2012). Am I likely to get a visit from a doctor? I included a lot of medical supporting info with my claim. I am in the support group for ESA.

thanks

Hi Mel,

We tend to hear more from those making DLA first claims and renewals who have to have medicals than this who don't, but from my experience I'd estimate that those
subjected to a medical is around 10% or less.

However, as you're aware, if the legislation is approved DLA recipients from 16 to 64 will be moved onto Personal Independence Payment from around 2013 to 2016.

All new and existing claimants of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) will be subject to a medical assessment from 2013-14, as was announced by George Osborne some time ago.

If their mobility and/or care needs have remained the same, their DLA should be safe, but in these times of multiple welfare reform, who knows what the Government have
in mind for the future.

Good luck.

Jim
