This is what I have from DLA I have been disabled since a lorry fell on me at work in 1997,since this time I have learned to live and have the help of a walking stick to get about.I receive HRM and LRI in 2009 I let things get on top of me and tried to end it all,I had help from my doctor and a CPN was assigned to me but half of the time he made appointments and never showed so I disengaged little did I know I should have asked for another CPN to call. At this stage I had been diagnosed withChronic Fatigue Syndrome,I do not go out I have bad memory and a lot more things wrong, then in March 2011 I fell and hurt my right arm shoulder and hand I also got worse where my pain in my hip lower back and leg has been since my accident in 1997 and now need rubs 24/7 help with my washing dressing cooking I have just went really bad and downhill and always now need help.
I applied to DLA for care component as I now need this and before I was able to do a lot myself,I waited and got a letter to say nothing had changed from 2003 and was turned down for care part ,I had medical reports and other reports to say how my life had changed but it was no so I asked for it to be looked at again and still no change ( I wonder did they even look at my notes and case ) Well I ended up going to a tribunal and sat in Belfast for 2 and a half hours to be called in and be told we want a doctor to do a home visit sure they should have said or done this before the tribunal.I do not know what to do or where to get help as CAB in Carrickfergus can do no more and they have no funding to send some one with me the next time I have to go and it is so distressing for me but I do need the care and if I do not go it will look like I am a liar that is how it has made me feel. Sorry to go on but can you help........

We cannot give advice with regard to your appeal but we can suggest ways for you to prepare for it.

Being asked to attend a medical is not unusual and is in some ways a positive sign in as much as they have already decided there is some merit to your case, otherwise they may well have rejected your appeal.

I don't want to throw too much at you as a I know how difficult the brain-fog that is often associated with ME/CFS, as I suffer from it as well.

You can prepare for the medical by having a look at the following FAQ and the guides it links to.

DLA medical examination

With regard to the appeal, once you have had the medical the "doctor" will produce a report, which you will be sent a copy of, once that has happened, a new hearing will be scheduled. I don't know how bad the queues are in NI so it may be weeks or months before this is held.

Have a look at the this FAQ and the pages it refers to, this will explain what you need to do to prepare for the new hearing.

Preparing for a Tribunal

From there, I would suggest you have a look at the DLA claim guides to see how, if you were starting from scratch, you would complete a DLA claim form. Most Tribunals are decided on the day, by how the claimant explains their condition and more importantly how they affect them on a day by day basis. The guides will prompt you to think about how you might answer these questions. See

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/dla/#dlaclaims

Good luck and if you have any questions, please come back to the forum.
