GP's Statements & Support was created by Augustus
I am currently being re-assessed from IB to ESA and I expect to have to appeal soon.
My GP had nothing to contribute in evidence at the ESA50 stage.

I have learned that there is a particular form which is the equiv. of a doctor's statement, but I don't know whether it is something my GP would have to hand or if I have to request it from DWP. And also whether I would have to pay my GP for it.

I think my GP might not want to actually "support" me, but a statement from him outlining how my conditions impact me would obviously be helpful.

Just concerned that if I do nothing, the DWP may communicate directly with GP and I would have no control over what is said, with scope for misunderstandings.

Could anyone offer any guidance on what I should do as otherwise, my only evidence I would offer an appeal tribunal would be my own statements.

Thanks

A

You can request a report or letter of support from your GP, but they are under no obligation to provide you with one and may charge if they do.

The DWP are under an obligation to seek all relevant evidence in order to make a Decision on your claim, this should, but often does not, include a request to your GP for information. This request is made on an ESA113, and the GP is required by law to complete it, although it has to be said that members have had varying results in the quality of the information provided by their GP.

If your GP is not supportive, you can request access to your medical records, these not only contain details of any contact you have had with your GP but any correspondance they have had with Consultants and/or Specialists you have seen with regard to your condition. The following FAQs exaplain how to do this.
