WRAG and work programme was created by micksville
Sorry if this is in a way a benefits news question. However, the recent news I think posted on 17th february here that the Guardian had reported on DWP proposals for WRAG group claimants to be put on the work programme mandatorily seems to have caused quite some concern.
As I understand it WRAG group claimants are already subject to mandatory work programme when their prognosis has only three or six months left to run. Infact I swapped posts with Gordon on this recently re: the time changes and difference on this for IR and /or Contributions Based Wrag claimants.
Have I misunderstood this or are the new proposals, if they come in more sweeping in that all Wrag group claimants will be required to do mandatory and unlimited work placements regardless of their prognosis or length of it?

Hi, I to am in the WRAG section, but I am apealing. However on my med sheet I have received, without the points listed in which I asked for I have been told on the form ' I advise that a retuen to work could be considered within 18 months' also that I have on the ESA50 & Med 3, 'suggests that the client has a significant level of disability due to depression, such that they would have ltd capability of work'.However they forgot to mention my severe physical disability which prohibits me to walk and that I have to use a wheelchair etc, nuts I know.
So how and when would they send me to work, I am on contribution based ESA/ DLA HM &HC & IIB @50%.
So do they expect myself & others who have been deemed unfit to work to do unltd work placements, for aunltd time scale, regardless of our diagnosed incapacity to undertake work?
To me if we are placed to do so, then they will say we are well enough to work fulltime and take us of all of our benefits, despite whatever ails us.

Dont think it works exactly like that sally Ann. theres a clause in there that says placements cannot be used to circumvent the WCA and I think that applies as much to the DWP as the client.
I am like you in that my physichal issues would make it very difficult for them to place me anywhere really. but as i undserstood matters, those with a longer term prognosis would not be subject to the madatory work programme until theyre within three to six months of their prognosis ending. I was given a prognosis of "at least two years" and it also comments that I would be unable to return to work in the longer term. It doesnt even say a return to work could be considered... just says he is unlikely to return to work for at least two years

What i was trying to get at is the will scenario be likely to remain that those whose prognosis is a way of considering a return to work not be placed on the work programme? Or is it likely the new proposals mean everyone rergardless of length of prognosis will now be forced to do placements?

Given the current legislation specifically states that an ESA claimant cannot be required to work or seek work, its not clear how this process is intended to work by the DWP.

I haven't had much time this afternoon, but a quick search has not revealed any more details of this "suggestion" beyond the the two documents included in the original Guardian article.

I'll try and do some more searching, but I suspect there is nothing else in the public domain at the moment.
