After a revue of paperwork that I still have (most of it has been shredded years ago, as told no need to hang onto as will be on IB until pensionable age, via DHSS personel in 2008)I have tried to locate Consultants I saw in the various hospitals/clinics. Cannot locate any that are still in work, seeing this was mainly done in 1996-2000. My GP clinic where you see anyone available is non comital over the situation & state as far as they are concerned as I have not been a regular requiring GP attention over the last 2 years since I joined them & only require the extensive list of monthly med prescriptions they are not in a position to ascertain the extent of my disabilities. The physio dept at the clinic do not do home visits so I purchased homemedics massage cushions/chairs etc. I do see a CPN, who now visits me & she has supplied me with an adequate letter to assist for my apeal.
So it is difficult for those of us who were put on the IB scrap heap years ago to be able to follow up with help re letters etc unless they have really stayed in the same place, seeing the same GP's etc. Those that have moved about a bit or have stayed away from mainstream meds are in a real dodgy position. Where and what do we do.

Hi PCM,

You can request your medical records from your G.P. practice, these will include any historical information going back to when you were a child.

You can do this via reception, without having to see your G.P.

Any letters sent to your G.P. from consultants or other treating HCP's from the past will be held on file in your G.P. records.

There will be a charge though, have you read :

Hiya, Yep have asked in the past to see my records.
Joke is, in 2004 central holdings said as I had had a lot of stuff in files etc they now note most has gone missing. Wonderful. Also told as most of the consultants were from my Insurance claim, they were not obligated to send any consultants reports to my GP. Again as now over 7 years ago,no paperwork anywhere in existence. I have just got cobbled bits of paper with names of Consultants and locations where I was seen, with a few lines here and there of any pertinent medical conclusions/examination reports from these eminent people. The lawyer I used no longer practises and the legal practise itself does not keep records dating back that far, although the Senior partner seems to remember the case, but not enough to comment. Seems my good luck prevails !!!

Hust discovered that central records are under no obligation to keep hold of ones records after them being passed onto them via your GP. Many GP Surgeries pass on old records to central records for filing if space is of a premium. Central records usually destroy records on a file format & in many cases have not transfered any records pertaining to a person to either micr or disc filing, especiallly going back many years.
So it is almost impossible to get hold of any records on you that is older than 10 years unless you have copies yourself. Central records do not have a legal obligation to keep them.
