SDA confusion - pls help was created by Sorted125
Last year I got the forms to claim mortgage interest relief, from the CAB, but didn't submit them as I was told I might be called for interview and was too nervous for this.

Yesterday, I decided it was silly not to claim money I was entitled to, and I phoned the benefits enquiry line who told me I need to phone the jobcentre.
I then rang the jobcentre who told me I need to contact the benefits enquiry line, even though I told them I had just spoken to them.
I then rang the benefits enquiry line and they said that I need to be on severe disability premium to claim mortgage relief - they said I should be getting severe disability premium as I am on middle rate DLA.
They referred me back to the jobcentre instructing me to say, I need my incapacity benefit topped up as I am on middle rate dla.

I thought I was already on severe disability premium as it was on my income suport papers before my income support stopped in 2006, when I got my occupational pension, and was no longer eligible for income support.

I have some questions below please.

Why did they stop my severe disability premium when I came off income support (I was on middle rate DLA back then)?

The DWP have no record of me being on income support and I have thrown my income supoprt paperwork out. Should I ask if I can get a backdated claim for severe disability premium as they should not have stopped that part of income support in 2006, given that I was still on DLA middle rate care?

If I press ahead with this, and also claim mortgage interest relief, will the DWP make me go for a DLA medical, as I have never had a DLA medical before?

Many thanks

As you stopped receiving Income Support in 2006 on account of the receipt of an occupational pension, you would no longer qualify for the severe disability premium or Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI).

The fact that you are receiving the middle rate care component of DLA is irrelevant in the circumstances you have described, because as soon as you no longer met the qualifying conditions for IS, both the SDP and SMI would no longer be payable.

Thank you for your help.

Last year, the CAB said I could apply for mortgage interest relief and helped me fill the forms for the DWP.

In light of the information on your reply, does this mean that the citizens advice bureaus advice was incorrect ?

Thanks

Thanks for the link, I had a read of it, but as I get easily confused,I am still not clear on the SDA side.

I know I no longer qualify for income support, but if I understand this correctly, if I am not getting money for income support then I dont get money for SDA, is that correct?

Thank you and sorry for sounding dumb, my medication impairs my thinking and I get easily confused.

Thanks
