Atos Medical was created by dis1
My husband has received Industrial injuries benefit at the rate of £120 per month and was awarded for 12months after attending a medical by Atos. ( loss of 20% of lungs)

He has been sent a date for another medical but the problem is that as my husband has triggers that cause Asthma attacks when he comes into contact with carpets and traffic fumes, other simple things like perfume or aftershave or deodarants and even cigarette smoke causes him to have difficulty breathing and then coughing fits which then cause to choke.

This causes him great stress and embarrasment.

Does he have any options ?

Yes please ask for a home visit. They do do them but you must ask. I suggest you contact your welfare rights person to help you too, be it CAB, ir whoever. I am on 50% disability and am now at that rate for life, however I made sure I went for the consultant ATOS apt for each of the med visits prior to be told, no longer to visit and the IIB set at 50%.Moreover, if I had had a home visit, and information help from CAB home visitor my amount would have been set at far more than 50%. But I did not know at the time. We were told that we must not ask for a revisit(was after 1 year)because they could reduce/terminate the IIB because of arthritis/degenerative disease setting in and that was because of the injury over time. So please get a home visit and a meeting prior to that with your welfare worker/ CAB etc. Good luck

As moderators our area of expertise is in relation to disability living allowance, attendance allowance, the personal capability assessment used in connection with incapacity benefits, and the work capability assessment used in connection with employment and support allowance. So those are the only subjects on which we can provide reliable information.

All we can offer is general information about how the system works. However, we cannot offer advice to individuals about a specific benefits problem under any circumstances. To give accurate and reliable advice about a specific benefits problem, we'd need to know a great deal about your income, savings, health, household arrangements and more. To give advice without all this information would seriously risk misinforming you.

If you need specific benefits advice, you can download our FREE, 12 page guide from the other resources section.

However as it's so difficult to get advice on Industrial Injuries for an accident or disease, see Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (diseases and deafness)
