WRAG OR WSG was created by lewis1998
Hi, Have been on ESA contribution based since last april. I filled in the dreaded form in october and had a medical in november. I didnt hear anything for 8 weeks and when I phoned the DWP I was informed over the phone that I had been placed in WRAG. I have had no letter of confirmation although I must have been placed in it as my benefit went up to £94 per week.I received another dreaded form last week but this time I sent back extra medical support from my consultant at the hospital and hopefully will be put in the WSG but prob. not. What I would like to know is should they have informed me of their WRAG decision by post and how do I appeal it if as is likely i am kicked of the WRAG contribution based as my year is nearly up. THANKS

Hi l 1998,

All claimants going through the ESA WCA process, should received written confirmation, in the form of a letter from the DWP Decision Maker.

This letter should inform the claimant which group of ESA they have been placed in, and include a breakdown of the money they are entitled to. It should also include the effective start date of the ESA award.

Obviously if the claimant is found "fit for work" and therefore has no entitlement to ESA, this should be confirmed in writing as well.

Along with any letter as mentioned above, details of how to appeal the decision should also be enclosed, informing the claimant that they have 1 month from the date of the letter to submit an appeal, if they disagree with the decision.

So yes, you should have received written notification from the DWP that you had been placed in the WRAG of ESA.
