Hi, I am new on here and a bit nervous as I do struggle with my literacy skills. A few questions I would like to ask, if you can answer them. Sorry It is so long. Thanks

I'm 31 years old and I'm single mum, my Income Support stopped on Monday (5th), as my son turn 7. I went to CAB two weeks ago and they made an claim for ESA over the phoned. I have send the ESA (recorded delivery) with the sick note (My GP signed me off for 6 months), with a letter from counsellor too, bank statements show them which benefits I am getting.

How long does the first ESA payment come through? I did not realised you can claimed Income Support or ESA for your disability wise, so I am new to this.

I was born with Klippel Feil Syndrome, is a rare bone disorder caused by (failure of the division of the bones in the cervical. Restricted mobility of the upper spine, a low hairline and rib abnormalities - that high-risk patterns of cervical spinal motion should be strongly advised to avoid activities that place stress on the cervical spine etc.)

My other disabilities are Deafness (Profoundly deaf in left ear, a little bit of hearing in my right which I use an hearing aid) Speech Impediment (was born with a Cleft Palate)depression/Anxiety.

If I do have an Medical later on, I am scared that I will failed as when people with Cancer/MS are being passed fit. Very worrying indeed, I didn't realize how difficult/tough to get ESA.

I was wondering where does my condition KFS come under as "Musculoskeletal" Upper Limbs? Has anyone passed the medical or without with Musculoskeletal condition?

Another thing I do not see spine consultant about my Klippel Feil Syndrome, as they do not know much about my condition as It is very rare.

At 14 I was told by an spine consultant, they could not able to help me as I do experience neck/shoulders/upper
spine pain. As It's a big risk to operate on my neck/upper spine due area.

So I buy painkillers over the counter to help the pain.

Thanks.

Hi N,

Welcome to the forum.

As you are new, it may help if you read the information from the following link :

Welcome to Benefits and Work

As you have made a fresh claim for ESA, and provided a "Sick Note", you should start receiving assessment rate of ESA if you are entitled, once your claim has been processed.

You will enter the Assessment Phase of ESA, which should last no longer than 13 weeks, although it sometimes does.

You will be required to fill in an ESA50 questionaire, and you may be required to undetake a "face to face" assessment.

You can have a look at the ESA50 from this link :

Use Of The Interactive PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire

You should also read our ESA Claims Guides, for Physical and Mental Health Conditions, whichever is applicable to you, as in :

Employment and Support Allowance claims on physical health grounds: a guide to the work capability assessment.

&

Employment and Support Allowance claims for Mental Health and Learning Difficulties: a guide to the limited capability for work assessment.

Both are accessible from here :

ESA Guides

There are then one of three outcomes, you may be found "fit for work" in which case you will have no entitlement to ESA, or you could be placed in the WRAG or Support Group of ESA, have a look of our :

Understanding Employment and Support Allowance
Our 42 page introductory guide to ESA.

Again accessible from the link below :

ESA Guides

You should also take the time to look at the information on the relevant pages from the links provided in our FAQ's, here :

FAQ’s

Scroll down to the ESA section.

Remember that it is not any particular medical condition that qualifies you for an award of ESA, moreover it is the resulting limitations, it is a "capability" assessment.

After reading the information provided on the links above, if you then have any general questions, please repost here.

Even though you do not seem to be under the care of a Consultant, you may wish to approach your G.P., to see whether he is willing to provide support in the form of a letter, etc, when needed.

Cheers

Hi N,

Also, the Report to Moderator function, should not be used to seek information/advice
about your medical condition, and under no circumstances can we provide advice on
individual medical problems which you are seeking from the wording of your post.

I appreciate that you are a new member so can only advise that you read the forum rules by clicking on FAQ on the green area on the left of the forum page.

Bro58 has provided you with the e-mail address to change your Username and with various links to ESA.

As my colleague has advised, if you have any general questions then feel free to post again, but to reiterate we cannot provide advice or comment on the medical conditions you have, as we don't have access to your case files, nor are we medically qualified.

The best advice is given 'face to face' by a benefits adviser who wil be able to see your case files and advise you accordingly.

Your local CAB should have a benefits adviser. If not try Benefits Adviser or Community Legal Advice

Hope this helps.

Jim

Thank you for your replies.

I received my ESA50A this morning, I am already getting nervous and anxious.

I contact my CAB adviser via through e-mail this morning, she replied back that she is going arrange me an home appointment with an benefit adviser. Help me to fill in the forum.

I am hoping that my GP will write a letter to me support my evidence. I received a letter from my Counsellor to support me.

I have been reading ESA Guides too, It's has been a real help.

Thanks again.
