ESA reclaim - GP supporting letter??

More

I am currently filling in my ESA50 to renew my ESA (support group). My GP has offered to write a supporting letter to enclose. Would this be a good idea or is it better to wait for them to contact your GP if needed?? I'm so anxious not to loose my benefit as I'm in a worse state than when I was initially put in the support group.

By all means get your GP to write a letter in support of your claim and enclose it with your ESA50. Even better if your GP will refer to particular descriptors and say how s/he believes you meet the criteria. The DWP don't always ask your GP to comment.

Hi a02,

If your G.P. is going to provide a letter of support, it would be wise to include a copy attached to your ESA50.

Draw reference to it within the ESA50, and make sure that your name NI Number, and DOB, are at the top of any added pages.

You should check the letter from your G.P. first, to ensure there are no negative aspects.

You can not be certain that the DWP will contact your G.P., as they do not always do so.

Mrs Hurtyback - thank you for your reply. When you say 'specific descriptors', what are you referring to?

The 'descriptors' are the sections on the form against which you can score points. It would be more beneficial if your GP said "aej02 has difficulty with such and such" rather than just stating "I don't believe aej02 is fit for work".

Hi a02,

MHB is correct, if you can get your G.P. to draw direct reference to the SG Descriptors, that will help even more, see :

Qualifying for the Support Group
