Step son claim advice was created by Jude
Hi,
My stepson who has heart problems has applied for ESA. My husband works full time. My Daughter has lost her job so now claims Job seekers allowance, so does my son and older stepson, since both graduating from University.
All four children live at home, so will my husbands income prevent my step son claiming ESA?
My step son has never claimed Job seekers allowance or worked. After school he attended college.
Also I claim SDA and DLA so would my claim be affected or his claim if he got awarded ESA?
The ESA form my stepson has received is an ESA 10/11 and does not ask anything about his illness, just what savings he has and if anyone owes him money ect.
Should he still write/send detail on additional paper or just send the sick note they ask?
Thanks.

Your son's claim should not be affected directly by either yours or your husbands claim, it is only a partners income which will possibly have an inpact, which I assume is not relevant.

The form he is filling in in an ESA1 form, which is the application form for ESA, providing he qualifies for ESA as a benefit, he will then receive an ESA50 to complete which is where he will need to tell the DWP about his illness.

He/you should have a look at our ESA claim guides, see
