ESA and Mortgage Interest Relief was created by Charlie
I am currently receiving IR ESA and am due to be re-assessed. (I've just received another ESA50 to complete!)I am currently also receiving Mortgage interest relief.
I only have a few years left on my mortgage and a close friend has offered to pay it off for me. This is a lovely gesture and it seems wonderful to have the prospect of not struggling to keep up the payments, as despite the help I get,it's a lot of money. Will it give me a problem do you think? When I tell the DWP I don't need the help with the mortgage any more, will they ask why? And might I be penalised for accepting this gift? I've tried to find the answer but can't find anything relevant.
Can anyone help me with this please?

Hi Charlie,

As moderators, our remit is as stated on the forum : Share questions and results for DLA & ESA claim forms, medicals and appeals.

We cannot deal with mortgage interest relief queries, unless a member knows about
this and is able to advise you.

You need to seek 'face to face' advice from a benefits adviser who is familiar with
mortgage interest. Your local CAB should be able to assist you.

You could also try Benefits Adviser or Where to get legal advice

Other moderators or members feel free to comment, but moderators please note advice in this area is not within our remit.

Good luck

Jim
