DLA Award was created by Eaglewoman
Hi, after a lengthy struggle I have received an award of low rate mobility and middle rate care. Both have been awarded indefinately. I have Fibromyalgia plus many other problems that will depress me if I list them here ;) I will rest on my laurels for a little while as I consider whether to appeal this decision.

But I wanted to know if there are other monies I will get now?
I know that if the higher rates of care and mobility are awarded, there are other monies from income support etc. and I wondered if there are other entitlements for the types of award I have received?

Thank you for your guides and advice, I put them to good use and may have to continue using the guides if I go forward for an appeal.

Kind regards :)

Hi, I don't know enough to answer your question about extra money. However, there are 2 things you need to think about -

Firstly, your current award will be reviewed if your appeal and it is possible that you could lose what you already have. You need to be as sure as possible that your current award is safe before you decide to appeal.

Secondly, all people of working age will be reassessed and switched from DLA to PIP over the next few years, so even an 'indefinate'award will have a limited life.

Just to follow on from Mrs H's post.

To be awarded Higher Rate Care, you will need to show you have care needs both night and day.

To be awarded Higher Rate Mobility, you will need to show that you have significant problems with walking.

With regard to your current award of MRC, this enables another person to claim Carers Allowance for you, or if you live alone and receive an Income Related benefit such as Income Support or ESA(IR), then the Severe Disability Premium may be available.

You should seek face to face advice from your local CAB or Welfare Rights office, to see whether you can claim the above and any other benefits.

carers allowance is only made if someone is working less than I think 16 hrs a week and earns less than £98 a week and looks after you full time.
As I am on HRM/HRC DLA, we have just checked this all out with CAB and with the Carer support group, hoping my husband could apply for some money to help us as he tries to do as much as he can workwise around caring for me.full time. No hope of any finances as he earns over the £98 pr week threshold.
