Confused. Husbands letter informing he has been put in the support group says at the bottom 'The amounts on this page apply from 18th April 2012 to 27th November 2012. Does anyone know if this is the length of his claim before being reassessed or is something happening on that date that we don't know about. Sorry if it sounds like a supid question.

DWP do seem to pick a random date on these letters, the best suggestion I have heard is that this might be something to do with their internal systems. To give you an idea as to when you might be re-assessed you need to obtain your paperwork from DWP.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi BW,

ESA award letters do includes dates from/to, however this is purely for administration purposes, and has no bearing on the expected length of the ESA award before re-assessment.

The only way to find out when your husband is likely to be re-assessed, and the expected length of the Support Group award is to request either the ESA85 medical report if he had a face to face "medical", or the ESA85A if he didn't have a "medical", see :

ESA Forms

ESA medical – what forms to ask for?

How often will I be reviewed

Either the ESA85 or ESA85A should contain the "prognosis" this is the recommended length of the award, given by the ATOS HCP to the DWP Decision Maker.

Hope this clarifies it for you.

Congratualtions on your husband gaining entry to the SG. :)

Thank you both for your quick responses and for clarifing the situation.

A big thank you to everyone on this site. Many times we struggled with the thought of coping with the process of changing from IB to ESA. We felt very alone and feared for the future. I would log on here and read other peoples posts and we would know we were not alone and that there were people that did care! You helped us understand the questions and you gave us the confidence to give detailed but honest answers. Thank you.

Be aware though that the date on the ESA medical form with the prognosis date i.e 18 months time,(WRAG Group) may well be different if you go for appeal and then it gets looked at by a DM b4 the appeal & they place you in Support Group, this could then state 6 months & will time it from original award date for the 6 months. e.g Dec 13th 2011 for 6 months, takes you to 13th June 2012, therefore you could receive forms to fill out again in April 13th ( the usual 8 weeks b4 end date of award)
