Hi all this is my first post. I have just had my DLA assessment and have discovered the assessor is a registered nurse but has no medical qualifications at all. Is this right and how can she make medical decisions.

Advice much appreciated

Yes, nurses, midwives and physios are being used as assessors. Nurse training these days is far more than just washing and feeding patients, I would far rather be seen by an on-the-ball nurse than an out-of-date doctor!

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

I have also found that many nurses are a little less convinced of their own infallibility than many doctors.

I found that, in general, nurses have been more understanding about ME/CFS than doctors have been.

Having said that, if I had a less common ailment or a complex neurological problem, then I might want to check with ATOS in advance that a doctor might be needed.

But whoever you see, they still have to fill in the LiMA computer program, and go to a medically unqualified Decision Maker at the DWP for a final judgement.
