Sorry to repost. I had an email saying I hada reply but canot find the thread.

On the ESA form part 1 question 1,
Can you move at least 200 metres before you need to stop? What length of time is considered a stop?
Thank you, Rambling Ted

RT

I'm afraid I don't know where your previous post is, we did lose a couple of posts this afternoon due to a system problem, but the following thread discusses this topic.

Thank you , I'm not sure if it the same thing.
I cannot walk 200 yards without stopping.
I stop for a break and the length of time of the break varies before I can carry on to complete the 200 yards.
i wondered what they considered the minimum time for a stop to be eg two or three minutes (or would that be a pause  )
I did ring the benefits office but they seemed vague about it.

Hi RT,

As Gordon says in this post :

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/forum?func=vie...id=10&id=85850#85871

from the link he provided previously, the mobilising question on the ESA50 also covers use of a manual wheelchair unaided, not just walking.

May I suggest you review our ESA Claims Guides, accessible from here :

As I explained in the other thead there is no definition of what a reasonable period is.

Also of importance is your reason for stopping, is this due to pain or exhaustion? If you normally stop before the onset of either of these, then your actual walking distance may be further under the law. Conversely, continuing while still suffering pain and/or exhaustion is not counted as continuing.

You also need to consider the use of a wheelchair over the same distance, as the test if for mobilising, not just walking.
