descriptor for eating was created by CraigJones
Basically a few years ago I had cancer in my neck and jaw. I had a 13 hour operation to remove the cancer and they replaced it with bone from my hip.

Ever since I had mobility problems and depression as its left me severely disfigured.

I had a ESA medical 2 months ago and the nurse did now award me 1 point even though I cannot walk over 20m without pain etc…

I have my tribunal today.

BUT when I had the ATOS report after my medical, the descriptor for
‘Stopping repeatedly when chewing’ wasn’t in her list of descriptors. And this descriptor I believe entitles you to support group.
Is this descriptor taken into account at all? should i mention this descriptor in todays tribunal ?

many thanks

Hi, I have just had a look at the descriptors. As far as I can see, it ius being unable to eat or chew at all that would automatically grant you support group status.

Sorry, I am not sure that my previous answer is correct (I'm trying to look at the guide whilst hanging on the phone to speak to someone at DWP!). I will leave your query for one of the more experienced mods to answer.

Craig

The descriptor you are referring to is indeed for the Support Group, the full text is as follows.

15. Conveying food or drink to the mouth.
(a) Cannot convey food or drink to the claimant’s own mouth without receiving physical assistance from someone else;
(b) Cannot convey food or drink to the claimant’s own mouth without repeatedly stopping, experiencing breathlessness or severe discomfort;
(c) Cannot convey food or drink to the claimant’s own mouth without receiving regular prompting given by someone else in the claimant’s physical presence; or
(d) Owing to a severe disorder of mood or behaviour, fails to convey food or drink to the claimant’s own mouth without receiving:
(i) physical assistance from someone else; or
(ii) regular prompting given by someone else in the claimant’s presence.

Hope this helps
