Regarding the Four Weeks to Complete ESA50

Hi everyone

In answering a post, I've become aware that there is a late, double Bank Holiday at the beginning of June, specifically the 4th and 5th.

Please remember that the DWP make no allowance for weekends and/or Bank Holidays in the four weeks that you have to complete and return the ESA50 questionnaire, so you may need to return the form early to avoid problems with the post at the beginning of June.

It replaces the traditional Whitsun Bank holiday. The double bank holiday is for the Diamond Jubilee and I'm not sure but I heard rumours the postal collections and deliveries on the Saturday are postponed

My deadline was Good Friday 6 April, and I posted it only the day before (first class to be signed for), on the basis that no-one would be working at the DWP to notice that it hadn't arrived on time, and that I could at least prove I posted it before the deadline.

It was actually signed for on 16th, a whole 11 days later, which even allowing for the Bank Hol is extraordinary.

(I had my medical yesterday. There has been no comeback about when my form was received.)

So I feel that if you do have to cut it fine it's not worth busting a gut and getting stressed out about it.

I am sorry but I have to strongly disagree with your view.

I am aware of a number of claimants on this forum and others, who have had their claims closed in exactly these circumstances for failing to return the ESA50 on time.

Whilst this is an appealable Decision, and I think it unlikely that a Tribunal would uphold the DWPs position, to resolve this could take a claimant months if not longer.

I can only repeat my advice that claimants make sure that their ESA50s arrive within the time limits notifed to them on the letter accompanying the ESA50.
