Just wondered if anybody knows if it is possible for written communication to be requested to be sent to you from the DWP via email rather than paper copies?

The reason I ask is that obviously such letters can contain very personal/confidential details, and none of it I have received is ever sent recorded delivery.

All fine and well if you have every confidence that your very personal mail will not go missing or by error be put through a neighbours letterbox by mistake!

It would also cut down on the cost of postage to the DWP which sometimes contains pages & pages which amount to nothing much.

As far as I am aware, the DWP do not communicate with customers using email at the moment, certainly, anything in this area would require seperate authentication, as is done by HMRC for the self-assessment tax online system, to be safe. If you think there are risks with your post, they are nothing to what can happen with a mis-directed email.

Hi Gordon,

I often communicate with the DWP on routine matters, but as you rightly say the DWP will not send case files to claimants as e-mail attachments, mainly because they're not geared up to do, and because many claimants ISP's don't use secure e-mail servers.

I cannot see this changing for the foreseeable future.

Back home now and feeling better. Thank you for e-mailing Pat.

Take care.

Jim
