If we refuse to go to a medicl because it is not recorded it will be marked as a no show and found fit for work, i dont bleive this for a minute, and wondered if steve had heard anything on this, or any of the mods or wether the dwp hd given incorrect info to stop my friend for asking for this request. Very confused any thougts is all the equipent broken nationwide?

We really have no way of knowing whether this is true or not, and it's really within our remit as moderators.

Recording equipment used isn't that sophisticated, so I doubt that all ATOS's recording
machines are not working.

I am not aware of this situation, and haven't seen reference to it on any other forums.

There appear to be a limited number of recording devices in the country, which are being moved from one office to another, so the wear and tear on each unit may be higher than would be expected, whether this would result in all of the units failing, seems unlikely.

Having publicly announced the provision of the service, it is difficult to see how Chris Grayling and the DWP can withdraw it because of equipment failure.

With regard to it being used a reason for a failed medical. it was accepted by the DWP, and by inference, ATOS, before Graylings announcement that asking for your medical to be recorded was a reasonable request.

Without further, and more official comment there is little more that can be said.

I would ask your friend if they could give them that in writing and if they loose and they have not faithfully put down their answers, then I would use that as grounds for a complaint.

Hi Paula

dont know if this helps - our assessment was rearranged six times because the recording equipment was not available. In all it added another ten weeks to the process. But once there it was straighforward on the day and reassuring to have a copy of the conversation.

This sounds like someone making up the first excuse that comes into their mind. Translated it means either (a) our office manager is fed up with people asking to be recorded or (b) I can't be [bothered] to arrange this or (c) I don't know how to do this.

However, if it is a bluff, then you can call it.

The easiest first step is to call the office and ask them if there are any machines available yet. If they say that there are not, then tell them that you are going to complain about this to your MP. They may, magically, find the one unbroken machine in the whole country and allocate it to you.

If they don't, then you should write to your MP immediately (providing they are not claimant-hostile). Ask them why ATOS are proposing to withhold recording from everyone in the country, even though Mr Grayling told Parliament that we could have recording of WCAs. Your MP should follow this up and (probably) say that the DWP say that this is not true - and you can take that answer to your local ATOS office.

But you do need to act immediately if you are to have the desired result.
