Ok, thanks for that...is it possible to track down the contact details for ATOS?

The Atos number for appointments should be on the letter informing you of the appointment.

The number is 0800 2888777, but it is still preferable to put the request in writing if you still have time before the assessment.

I should also add that assessments are often delayed or cancelled at short notice due to Atos' lack of recording equipment. See the newsletter below.

Good luck

Hi, just looking for some help here. I had assumed when or if I got an appointment for an assessment, I would just call and request that it be recorded. Well, I have an appointment for one and when I phoned my local Job Centre (which was the number I was given on the letter) they told me that I myself couldn't record, nor would they provide a recording. Can anyone tell me what I could do next? Thanks!

I had it all arranged for my medical to be recorded & ATOS said that it would be delayed as the equipment had broken & that I was only able to record it if the doctor would allow me too.

I suspect ATOS don't like the increase in requests and are trying to stop the medicals being recorded.

Now I have the request for it too be recorded can I refuse to let the medical go ahead without it being recorded?

We are entering untested waters with regard to the recording of medicals.

First, the ATOS "doctor" can refuse to participate, however this is ATOS's problem, not yours, although it might cause further delay.

With regard your insisting the medical is recorded, Chris Grayling has on several occassions stated that the DWP and ATOS are now assuming the responsibility for the recording of ESA medicals, so there is no reason why their inability to do this should have any effect on you, however, we have not been in this situation before, so we cannot predict how the DWP or ATOS will take this forward.

Obviously, insisting that the medical be recorded will delay any processes that are reliant on the medical being held, for a re-assessment, this should have little or no effect on the claimant as they will continue receiving their current rates, however, for new claims it may mean that they are only paid the Assessment rate for a protracted period.

The link is Recording Medicals It consists of 38 threads with over 200 replies, by both moderators & members.

I'm sure we're all sympathetic to the moderators, especially when, like yourself, they are battling serious illness as well as forum overload.

With regard to queries about recording, though, I think we should regard some of this as the penalty of success. Organisations, including B&W have campaigned for recording and we have now got it.

ATOS/DWP are trying to take it away by not giving out any information about it in the hope that the problem will go away. If it doesn't, they use obstruction and obfuscation. Hence the numbers of enquiries here.

BTW the "recording medicals" thread doesn't yet include the "Is this true" thread - things are moving fast, I think.
