Problems with incoming calls was created by Bodnar
After months of worrying and `what ifs` I finally got the letter to say that I will be tranferred from IB to ESA today. I was told that I will be called on an old number which I have since had changed because I was receiving nuicense calls. I phoned JOBCENTREPLUS to tell them of the new number, plus as I have caller display I will not answer certain numbers which are witheld. The adviser told me that their number would be an 0845. I told her I don`t answer them as well as I am being pestered by an Indian call centre and their number started with 0845, even though I am with TPS. She got a bit abrupt and told me that it was my responcibilty to take the calls. Anyway she did the questionair for me.Which sounded as though she was reading from a script. She rattled through and I didn`t hear half what was said! ,I have got 6 weeks for the ESA form to arrived. But I can`t help thinking that I shot myself in the foot already by making this call.

The DWP call centre staff are poorly trained and often have ittle appreciation of how the benefit system they are contacted about, actually works, so I wouldn't worry about the conversation you had.

Currently, there is nothing that the DWP need to speak to you about that cannot be done in writing, and in many cases must be done on writing. That is not to say that there are not circumstances when it would be to your advantage to take a call from them, and if instructed to call them, you should make all efforts to do so.

Can I query the six weeks you were told to expect the ESA50 within. Our understanding is that the ESA50 should be received within two weeks of the call, although in practical terms, this may actually be later to the current overloading of the benefits system, so I would recommend you contact the DWP again if the ESA50 is not with you within the two weeks.

If you are a full member of B&W please make sure you have a look at our ESA Claim guides to understand how to complete the ESA50 based on your condition(s) and their effect on you, see

Good luck with your transfer

Don't bother too much about the 0845 nos if its not for you hang up. Or say NO Thanks in a stern voice as I do. In fact I challenge the last caller to where he got my X directory phone number and yep he hung up quickly. Also have a word with BT if your with them. They stopped a lot of calls for me.I find it best to write to DLA,ESA and Jobcentre rather than phone em. I do a phone call after a week to see if they have got the letter and know the new information sent. Yep they're overwork with backlogs.

Alternatively you could ask for further communiction to be done by Post to you under the surcumstances.

I say this as Ive done it in the past.

You really have to know how to fill in the questions on the ESA50 I learnt by joining this site and getting the weekly emails of how to answer questions. For instance the t.v question is the favourite of medical Atos examiner. If you ask you do you watch t.v. they a asume that you csn sit for long periods. I can't sit for more than 13 minutes but do have the t.v on in the background a lot and would have not got the points for not being able to sit for more than 15 minutes, had I not said to them I have to get up but watch the telly
