Giving copy of completed ESA50 to GP was created by Gateway
I'm aware that any written correspondence used to request supporting evidence from doctors is often requested by the DWP and is used to check if the doctor has been influenced by the information in the requesting letter.

Would providing a completed copy of an ESA50 form to help inform a GP as to one's medical problems also potentially serve to discredit any information they were to provide the DWP? Is there any preferable way to inform one's GP as to how one's medical condition affects the ESA descriptors? The shortness of appointments makes it difficult to explain things clearly verbally, and misunderstanding seems common, particularly with more complicated problems. Doctors also seem to forget details explained to them that are key to a claim.

Thanks, all the best.

To be honest there is no definitive answer to this.

It will depend on your GP, your relationship with them, how often you see them, how they are involved in managing you condition, how interested they are in helping you?

Why don't you explain you concerns and ask your GP for their opinion.

Hi summertrain,

Can I ask you which of the guidelines you refer to from the esa downloads, as there are pages and pages of advice in the guides. Did you take several pages to your doctor. I guess Im just trying to figure out how to do a condensed version of the info for the doctor, as she wont look at it if it too much info.

Thanks.

Hi pjd In the guides to filling out the ESA50 there are examples of your illness affects your day to day functioning, relevant to Atos descriptors. Find those that apply to you, and give the doc copies. Use highlighter pen to point the doc to what you need her to say.
