Re-assesment times?

Re-assesment times? was created by Elaine
I was really pleased that I was placed straight into the ESA Support group. I have been in receipt of Invalidity/incapacity benefits for over 20 years. The letter from my hospital specialist made it clear that my condition is gradually worsening, and is unlikely to improve in the forseeable future. SO Why have I been awarded ESA for four months? I have asked, and been told "this is normal". Is it really normal that an award only lasts for 4 months? Will ATOS even have completed the changeovers by then? Is this just a method of increasing the stress of the forms - having to fill all the claim forms again in just 4 months is depresing.

You don't say where you have got the information that you will be re-assessed in four months from?

If it is from the Decision Letter that notified you that you had been successfully transferred, then the date in November is a DWP admin date and does not correspond to any re-assessment date, except by co-incidence.

The DWP usually use the prognosis specified by the ATOS "doctor" on your medical report. You can request a copy of this from the DWP, by asking for your ESA85 if you had a medical, or your ESA85A if you did not.

PS. Congratulations on the being placed in the Support Group.

Are you referring to the November date on your award letter, this is not a re-assessmt date but an admin date that the DWP seems to be putting on all award letters.

Yes the date was on my notification notice, but the advice that it is a re-assessment date came when I rang to ask the significance of the date. Did the (3) officers I spoke to all get this wrong?

It is possible that this could be the time period recommended for reassessment. However, we do see this date come up quite frequently and, whilst we are only guessing at its significance, it is usually nothing to do with reassessment

It may be because the very next 4-week's worth of payment (after the four months) will be slightly higher, as it will contain the £10 Christmas bonus. Our Subject Access Request yielded a sheet of computer print-out that strongly suggested this explanation to the -you will receive £XX from next month until November- sentence.

Unfortunately, our SAR yielded not one single item of the information requested, only the statement that we had requested ESA clerical and computer records, and a further statement that ESA clerical records (i.e. everything we requested) were not available......
