Mentioning DLA HRM on ESA Form was created by killbot99
Hi

I am in the process of filling out my ESA form, I receive HRM for DLA, and we have a mobility car and I am stating on the form that I am unable to walk for 50 metres without stopping.

Is it a good idea to mention that I get HRM for this here or do you think it wouldn't be a good idea or not relevant. I suppose I am concerned that if it all goes wrong that my DLA award and car would be taken away. Thanks.

The test for ESA is "mobilising" as opposed to "walking."

The descriptor in question reads "Mobilising unaided by another person with or without a walking stick, manual wheelchair or other aid if such aid can reasonably be used." This entails your ability to ‘mobilise’ on level ground – using a walking stick, manual wheelchair or any other aid it would be reasonable and considers whether a person could potentially use a wheelchair regardless of whether or not they have ever used a wheelchair. In effect, it is an imaginary wheelchair!

As you are getting the higher rate mobility then the distance you are assessed as being able to mobilise may be used to look again at your DLA, although the criteria are not identical. DLA doesn’t take into account your ability to use a wheelchair whether it be imaginary or otherwise.

It is entirely up to you taking the above information into account whether you wish to mention that you receive the HRM of DLA, although the ESA50 does not specifically ask for this information.
