ESA medical was created by ss
Hi,
I had my medical on Tuesday – I’m being assessed for the transfer from IB to ESA. I had to wait nearly an hour to be seen. The Atos healthcare assessor seemed very nice and went through all my medical details; she said she’d had a quick look at my ESA50 to see what my problems were. My husband had come in with me and was taking notes.

After going through all me medical problems she said there were only a few more things to go through but she was concerned about the time (I’d probably been in there about 50mins) and she asked if we had parked on the road where it was time limited. Yes, we had parked on the road and our parking time was up, so my husband went to move the car.

She then asked me about day-to-day routine and what I can do etc. Without my husband to prompt me on things I came away realising I had forgotten to say quite a few things that I has put in the ESA50 form, and also perhaps not explaining myself properly. I have problems with my memory and I forgot to tell her this although it is in the form. When she asked if there was anything else I kept saying I couldn’t think of anything but that I had written everything down on the form.

I am so annoyed with myself for not just having a list with me, and going through it. We’re also a bit suspicious that she prompted my husband to remember the parking time just before she asked me all the questions about what I can do- we had been with her for 50mins before he left and the questions she asked me on my own only took 10 mins.

I’m worrying now about the answers I gave her, for instance she asked me how long I can walk for – I said I can go to my nearest Post Box which is a 15 minute walk and I have a rest a the post box and then walk back. I now realise that I meant the whole journey was 15 minutes – so a walk of 7.5 minutes to the post box and then back again.

How can she judge how far (distance) I have walked if she doesn’t know what speed I am walking at?

Does the information on the ESA50 form that I filled in get fed into the report that she’s doing about me? I’m sure she didn’t cover all the descriptors with me.

Sorry for the length of this ramble but I just needed to get it off my chest.

Many thanks.

Hi ss,

The ATOS HCP should read and take into account your ESA50, and any other evidence that you may have provided, when making recommendations to the DWP Decision Maker, on the ESA85 Medical Report.

The DWP DM should also take into account all the evidence in front of him/her, before coming to a decision.

There is not much that you can do now, until you receive a decision from the DWP DM regarding an award of ESA.

Try not to worry too much, this may take some time, as the DWP are bogged under.

Hi,
Just to update you that despite what I thought was a terrible medical I've been put in the WRAG group (CB ESA)- many thanks to your ESA50 guide I think!

Although this is a relief I've put in an appeal to get into the support group. I sent an SAR request using your template but heard nothing back in well over 40 days so I rang up the DWP and requested all the relevant info. All they sent me (which only took 3 days incidentily) was the ESA85.

I've read this through and it seems to be the info the HCP took off me at the medical- but it doesn't tell me what points I scored.

Can you tell me which form I ask for to get the scores please?

Many thanks,
ss

It seems that, these days, the Decision Maker does not always produce a 'score sheet'. The ESA85 should outline which descriptors were met and you can usually work out the points awarded from that.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi,
Thanks to your brilliant ESA guide I've been put in the WRAG group (CB ESA). I've put in an appeal for the support group and using your template I asked for the relevant forms. After waiting well over 40 days I rang the DWP instead but all I've been sent is the ESA85.

Which form will show me the score I was given?

Many thanks for your help,

SS
