Hi Mods I wonder if you can help me, I am so confused, had a letter yesterday from DWP, a standard letter "changes in the esa rates payable" it goes on about last years rates when on esa CB, which was £94.25 then says from 11 August 2011 your esa will be £111.57 a week, this is because you have been placed in SG, (the letter in Jan of this year stated I was placed in SG in November of last year) oh well? this was after I had put in an appeal, so this is confusing, and long. Then it states from 12 April 2012 your esa will be £119.85.

Yesterdays letter states from 12 April 2012 esa will be £117.52 a week because you meet the criteria for SG. However, on the last page where they lay out how amount is broken down in the January letter of this year (informing me I was in SG) it has £14.05 because of disability income guarantee, and £32.35 extra money because you are in the SG. Yesterday's letter states I will now be getting £26.75 extra money because "you are in the work related activity group" HELP I was getting £119.85 weekly, now they r telling me I am getting £117.52 a week, because of a change of circumstances. So have they been overpaying me a whole £2.00 a week extra, and why the WRAG bit, I have not had medical or a medical questionairre, (in fact I was expecting one) so so sorry this is long. Rapheal

Hi r,

On the premise that you have not received another ESA50, nor been re-assessed since you were placed into the SG, it would seem that this letter stating that you have been placed into the WRAG has been sent out in error.

Of course, the only way that you can sort this issue out is to contact the DWP.

Hi Bro, I am very fed up with all this, all my dealings with the great DWP have been a mass of contradictions, It is just that I am still getting £117.00 a week, according to the front page of the recent letter, so it does not make sense, as I would only be getting £96.00 if I was back in WRAG.

Another worry is that I had a customer compliance officer vist me 2 weeks ago, only to discover there happens to be "unbelievably" and "UNFORTUNATELY" 2 of us with the same first and second name, and they had got me instead of the other person, ( they should have checked the NI number) before they came avisiting.
I have got to get of this benefit as I can forsee nothing but trouble looming, (well one of us has got to go).
Thanks for replying, I wonder if the other one is a member, now that would be funny

Hi r,

It does seem that you have suffered some pretty awful treatment at the hands of the DWP.

The two claimants with the same first name and surname could be the root of the problem.

You really do need to sort this recent letter issue out though.

Make sure that you complain in writing, even if you are to phone up as well, you need a paper trail, in case it resurfaces again.

You may also wish to make an official complaint.

Complaining to the DWP

Contacting your MP

Sending Documents to the DWP or ATOS

Best of luck, and let us know how you get on. :)

Thanks Bro
I certainly will be ringing them, next week, but I am just so angry, it is bad enough dealing with these buerocrats at any time, but 2 of us with the same name, it is a bit like identity theft, I do not expect any sense from the DWP especially not now. I have already placed 2 complaints with the DWP for which they apologised, it is all just so time consuming and a thankless task,
Have a good weekend.

Hi r,

You really should back up any phone contact in writing, even if it only reiterates who you spoke to, what was discussed, and what if any resolution to the problem was arrived at.

If the same problem crops up again, a paper trail will definately help.
