STRONG MEDICATION and Support Group. was created by shrinathji
Hi All,

Does any members or Mods have any experience with regards to anyone being put into the S/G due to the strong medications and their side effects.

My friend has fibro a large painful heamangioma in her lower back as well as other physical problems. She is on really strong medication which makes her feel very weak and drowsy, which was one of the reasons her employers let her go from her job and she has a letter to the effect stating that due to her medication as well as physical limitattions she could be a danger not just to herself but also others in the work place and this would breach health and safety laws.

She is in the process of filling out her ESA50 and i feel she may qualify for S/G under the special circmstances where she can be a danger to others and herself due to the side effects of the medication.

Any advise or experiences on this matter will be really appreciated, as if she gets things right on the form then hopefully she will be put into S/G.

Thanks,
Radhika.

I was given the Support Group, without a medical assessment, and in the registered nurse's ESA85A report she commented on 'above average medication', which in my case included the highest dose of morphine patch and 22 other items taken daily. When my main carer, herself a retired staff nurse, sent in her report on me she included all the meds, and along side listed all the side effects. She suggests that you start with the strongest medication first if you're doing a similar list for your friend.
Hope this helps, Pen.

Hi Penthesilie,

Many thanks for your reply and suggestions.

It is comforting to hear that my friend may just have a chance of getting S/G without a medical assessment as i have personally seen the poor state she is in and the effects her medication has on her.

I will put this to her so that she can tell her Doctors etc to do as per your valuable suggestion.

Thanks.
Radhika.

Mods,

Do you think it would be of any benrfit to my friend if she sent a copy of the letter she has from her employers stating that that her medication and physical limitations was effecting her ability to do her job and breached health and safety!!!!

Many thanks.

Hi R,

Any evidence pointing to limitations caused by side effects of necessary prescribed drugs should help.

However, remember that to gain entry to the SG, not only must she have Limited Capability for WORK, she must also have Limited Capabilty for WORK RELATED ACTIVITY which would obviously include WFI's and WRA.
