" it is possible for example to buy peeled and cut carrots, broccoli and cauliflower for one which can be steamed in the microwave oven"

And the ridiculous thing about that is, it's an adaptation that means one has to spend more money on shopping (as pre-prepared veg is more expensive than unprepared) in order to cook for oneself. To my mind, if an adaptation has to be used that costs more, then that comes under the remit of DLA - a benefit aimed at paying toward the extra costs of disability!

Thanks again for your clarification, it's very helpful.

The use of aids must be reasonable, I haven't seen anyone argue it, but it may be possible to to put forward the case that either due to expense, shelf life, or access to the products in the first place, it is not reasonable for you to use them.

It seems like such a bind.

I pointed out umpteen problems I have with cooking and the medical reasons why - then I was given examples of how I might be able to cook, and told I didn't qualify. I reapplied, and responded to those points - and was told "this is a notional test, not about whether you can actually cook or not"

AGH!
