I had a similar experience.2 copies of EA50 sent, one to ATOS and the other to DWP(Decision Maker)both Royal mail track and trace. One acknowledged by track and trace the other not.I rang the number on my receipt and a very kind lady sent me an email with a photocopy of the signature for the missing acknowledgement. It does seem a faff to keep everything in order but I felt better knowing that they had got the information.

I read that the DWP have a centre where the mail is opened at the sorting office, so they knew where to send it
Maybe this accounts for the tracking seemingly going awol.

I wonder whether it's worth sending it recorded if it causes this hassle, so long as you have proof of posting.

With regards to sending the ESA50 recorded/special delivery, the following article may shed some light on why some people are having problems with the tracking:

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/...details-8118203.html

If Post Office sorting offices are sorting mail for DWP/ATOS as this article suggests, is it worth sending it by recorded/special delivery, and just get a proof of posting?

It seems to make sense, too, as my ESA50 has "FAO Hyde IBR Team 7" on the top of the form, indicating to me that this is indeed the case that the sorting office is opening and redirecting these forms.

Yes st,

This practice has been going on for several years, and has been discussed on the forum on quite a few occassions.

See this FOI request :

Apparently, you will see from the above that the P.O. workers have to sign the official secrets act, and are trained in data protection matters.

Hi st,

With regards to your query on whether it is worth using recorded delivery, guaranteed next day delivery, signed for delivery, etc, etc.

The advantage is that you can track and trace it online, and can therefore prove that it was delivered to the address or P.O. Box number that you were given.

Although, you would not have proof that the packet/letter that you sent actually included an ESA50, you could at least show that on the balance of probabilities it did, and that you took all reasonable steps to ensure that it was returned by the deadline given.

Of course, it is a matter of personal choice with regards to how you return the ESA50.
