Question regarding PIP descriptors was created by micksville
After years of deteriorating mobility I am being referred by my GP for a wheelchair( manual) from the NHS.... Though I am able to stand for short periods, with a great degree of pain and discomfort I cannot walk more than a few steps and that itself with a great degree of pain due to longstanding knee/back problems, now exacerbated by foot and ankle issues. The DLA accept from my latest review at the turn of this year that I can walk less than 20 metres and that in a very poor manner so I assume I would qualify for the enhanced rate of PIP as being able to "move up to 50 metres only with a wheelchair propelled by myself"....I am assuming " up to 50 metres" means actually 50 metres and not some distance between zero and moving towards 50 metres???
As well as clarifying this I wonder if anyone knows how this may affect the daily care component of PIP as I currently use dressing aids, have a disabled toilet with grab rail, also a walk in wet room with shower chair and grab rail and also need to use a perch stool when preparing meals. All these were prescribed by the Local Authority OT...but if I have to use a wheelchair, certainly for getting around outdoors, would this likely be assumed as being utilised in the house too in that I could "transfer" from a wheelchair to my toilet and wheelchair to my shower chair etc thus negating the need for the toilet and shower aids and possibly losing points from those descriptors?
I know it seems a silly way of looking at it but the ends the DWP seem to be going to I wouldn't be surprised and I'm wondering where I will stand with this as I reare for the introduction of PIP

I am really sorry but we are not in a posistion to give this detailed a response to a question about PIP.

The new descriptors have not been finalised, there has been no site of the underlying reguylations, nor have there been any real briefing documents about how the benefit will operate.

No worries Gordon Just thinking ahead as i was doing some research in preparation for it..Do we have any idea when the finer points of PIP will be finalised and addressed by the DWP especially with regard to levels of payments?

I am assuming April next year as the latest, although it could be a lot sooner.
