Please note I have had to create a new thread on PIP, as it 'disappeared' when I tried to upgrade the original one. Problems like this should be resolved when the forum software is upgraded this weekend

Before submitting queries on Personal Independence Payments, can we ask that members first read the thread on PIP in the Spotlights area of the forum.

Benefits and Work do not know anything further on PIP other than what is contained in our Spotlights thread on PIP which was updated yesterday and today.

Members should refrain from asking questions about their own individual claim for PIP, since we cannot give advice on individual claims, as is made clear in Forum FAQ

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Jim

I've just seen the latest PIP descriptors. I hadn't really examined them before, but they seem very harsh compared to DLA. The washing descriptors, for example - surely they used to refer to washing the torso, not "above the waist". Now if you can wash your own underarms you score a maximum of 3 points - or 2 if you can step over the lip of a shower as well.

The other thing I noticed was that the mobility descriptors do not include any provision like the "repeatability" clause for ESA, nor one about causing pain, like DLA(M). It sounds as though someone who could manage to totter along for 25m before stopping exhausted, in pain and unable to move any further for half an hour will, under PIP, no longer qualify for the higher level of mobility payment. If you add in the lack of a "reliably" clause, then someone who might be able to move 25m, or can do so on 4 days out of 7 would fail as well.

Presumably lots of other terms will have to be refined as the PIP "beds in". For example, suppose you can get into a T-shirt, but not into an ordinary shirt - does this count as being able to dress the upper body?

I read the outrage from Spartacus etc, whose careful briefing had clearly been over-ridden. Clearly fairness has been trumped by the desire to cut the budget still further.

Again this thread is for imformation purposes only.

Therefore, I am locking it to prevent it from developing into a discussion.

As Steve has stated : here , he will be providing up to date guides as soon as he can.

I agree with you locking it Bro, since we cannot offer any further information other than was posted in Spotlights in the last two days and by Steve in Benefits News today.

All I can say is that the legislation and regulations are much harder than I ever envisaged.
