I have received a letter about my daugher. She will be 16 in June and gets Middle Rate care because of her ME and Chronic Pain Syndrome, at present her benefit is paid into my account. The letter is asking if my daughter can manage her affairs once she turns 16, and if not (because of physical or mental reasons) who will manage them for her (welll that will carry on being me). They say they will arrange someone to visit us to discuss this  . So was wondering if anyone has experience of this? I am hoping to stop the visit, god we have enough stress in our lives (I also have ME and Fibromyalgia), so was thinking that if I get her Specalilist M.E. OT to send a supporting letter with the forms then that might be enough to stop the vist (worth a try I think). What child at 16 (especailly an unwell one) would be able to cope with the whole benefits system and the constant stress and strain they put us through. Any advice or experience greatfully received -thank you.

This is astandard letter sent to a parent/guardian as a child approaches their 16th birthday.

You may be able to avoid the visit, but I doubt it, the DWP will want to see and talk to your daughter to ascertain whether she is capable of looking after her own affairs or not.

If she isn't, then they should allow you to continue acting on her behalf, although you may need to sign a new set of papers to this effect.
