pjd wrote: Hi bro58,

Just been reading this thread about taking a copy of the esa113 form to your gp to fill in. I would have thought would be seen as 'influencing' the gp, or something like that.

Are you definately allowed to take a copy to your gp then?. I am due to see my gp tomoz and I am wondering whether it is best to get a support letter from the gp or ask them to fill the esa 113 in instead.

Any advice most welcome.

Hi pjd,

Taking a copy of an ESA113 to your G.P. and discussing it should not be a problem. Even if the G.P. agreed to fill one in for you, I am sure he/she would not be led, in what he/she decided to write.

With regards to gaining a support letter or not, and which is the best option, you would have to discuss this with your G.P.

Please take into account the comments in my previous post regarding this.

Hi guys

This a personal opinion not substantiated by any evidence, direct or otherwise.

I think a claimant using an ESA113 to solicit a "report" from their GP is a terrible idea.

This is a DWP form for use by the DWP, whilst I am not suggesting that a GP is more or less likely to write an accurate report on claimants condition as a result of receiving this form, I think there are issues associated with the use of the ESA113 in this way, which could potentially damage a claim by undermining their evidence.

I cannot see why, if a GP was willing to fill in an ESA113 for the claimant, why they would not write a proper report or letter on their behalf, and conversely if they are not prepared to write a report in the first place, why would they complete an ESA113 from the claimant.

I see where you are coming from here G, and agree in the main part with your comments.

I was simply responding to teabag's query, as we have both stated it is a DWP document, and not meant for use by the general public.

I actually doubt very much whether a G.P. would in fact comply with a request to fill an ESA113 in for a patient.

I still see nothing wrong with taking a copy of an ESA113, and the ESA descriptors to one's G.P. and discussing it with them, it is then upto the G.P. on how they should proceed. In fact, it can be most helpful to discuss how the G.P. intends to answer Q6 of the ESA113, if one is received, with regards to travelling to a face to face assessment.

I did make reference to the scenario of being seen to lead the G.P.

I suppose it would be down to which approach was used by the patient, taking the potential pitfalls into account.

I do accept that your comments are valid, and it is good that members have slightly differing viewpoints to consider. :)

Hi,

I suffer from a lot of memory loss, so I know I probably repeat myself often on this forum, so sorry about that.

Ive read the advice, and I just thought that because my gp won't provide a full support letter unless requested by dwp to do so, but she will support me in asking for a home visit, then maybe I would get more info put down on the esa113 form than I would on a letter.

Thanks.

No problem pjd,

Valid points have been made regarding potential pitfalls by Gordon and myself.

Hopefully, you can make an informed decision as a result of this.
