A while ago I left the following question and received the reply:

My question:
I paid a full stamp when I left school and started work in 1971 until I had a breakdown in health in 1984. Since then I have continuously received a small works pension, and Invalidity Benefit and then Incap. Benefit. From 1995 I have also received DLA (care and mobility). I am now 8 years from State Pension age - will I receive the full/basic state pension as so many years have been on benefit and not employed? I have been told the necessary 'stamp' is paid by the DHSS/DWP while drawing benefit and therefore the state pension, when paid, will not be reduced because of this. Is this correct please?

To answer your question - you are credited with NI pension contributions whilst receiving IB and ESA

With the considerable worry of a possible transfer to ESA (or otherwise), I am trying to plan my future. Can anyone please confirm that with Invalidity Benefit and then Incapacity Benefit. I am credited with the FULL NI pension contribution and this leads to a FULL state pension, i.e, the State Pension due at age 66 for me isn't reduced because I have been on benefit for so long.

Thank you - and many thanks for the brilliant help given here.

To qualify for full State Pension, you must have paid or received N.I. credits for 30 years.

Another moderator has already advised that if you claimed IVB/IB or ESA you will receive an N.I. credit which will entitle you to full state pension.
