I receive higher rate DLA for mobility and care on an indefinate award. I have been moved from incapacity benefit to ESA and have been placed in the work related activities group. I am appealing this decision as I feel I should be in a support group. My question is is this information passed to DLA and will they want to look at it. Thanks

Hi t,

We only generally hear of this occuring with a "fit for work" decision, and not WRAG or SG.

The DWP do share information interdepartmentally, and it is not beyond the realms, that your ESA medical report could be used, if for some reason your DLA was reviewed under :

The Right Payment Programme , or for some other reason.

The ESA report could only be damaging to a DLA award, if anything in said report was contradictory to the exisisting DLA award.

Please be aware though, that the "Moving Around Mobilising" descriptor with ESA includes the use of a manual wheelchair unaided, whereas with The Mobility Component of DLA, it is purely a "Walking" test.

Therfore, it may be possible for someone to "fail" on the "Mobilising" with ESA, due to the "Virtual Manual Wheelchair" scenario, but still have the "Walking" limitations that qualify them for an award of Mobility Component of DLA.

Hopefully, as your DLA award is indefinate, you should be O.K., until you are invited to apply for PIP, post October 2015, see :
