Benefits and Work moderators do not deal with Private/Permanent Health Insurance, as it is not within our expertise. As is clearly stated under the forum name DLA & ESA Queries & Results :what the forum is for :

Share questions and results for DLA & ESA claim forms, medicals and appeals. PLEASE NOTE: this forum is provided as a courtesy for members to share experiences, we don’t guarantee an answer to your query.

Information on PHI can be obtained from your PHI provider, or by 'Googling' Private Health Insurance.

Also, I'm afraid we don't have a Personal Messaging system where members can contact other members privately. Again, this is to prevent a repetition of hacking on the original Benefits and Works site before www.benefitsandwork.co.uk was revamped about 4 years ago.

We also don't recommend that members try to contact each other by posting any personal details such as an e-mail address, or telephone number etc. This is done to protect our members identity in an open forum which non B & W members can read.

If any details of this nature are posted, they will be deleted to protect our members from spam mail and/or other misuse of information which can easily be gained from posting in any open forum which allows non members to read ( but not reply) to posts as is the case with B & W.

This post will be locked during this evening's session to prevent any ensuing discussion on PHI.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks Jim for your information. I can understand that Permanent Health Insurance is out of the moderators area of expertise (I think it is out of a lot of peoples to be honest) but the queries are relating to benefits and work (in this case ESA and Incapacity transition) and I cannot understand why they cannot be discussed on the forum. The website is very helpful indeed and as a member I was very interested to share experiences with other members on an older post until it was locked down for reasons I find very perplexing as no abuse or otherwise occurred. I would not be asking for the posters details if I could discuss this openly on the forum and as a member could share my experiences with others to help me with my case. I thought this was the purpose of the forums? I understand completely the need for not sharing personal information and would not want to if I could share information and otherwise with members.

Hello,

I must say that i do share your views as i too have in the past been involved in discussions regarding PHI's as my friend has a policy and is in awaiting her migration from IB to ESA.

I believe that the main worry for alot of PHI policy holders especially, if the policy was through an employers scheme, is that due to the change in legislation  there are alot of uncertainties with regards to the 12 month rule for ESA C/B and PHI policy holders as they will be worse off in monetary terms.

I agree with you with regards to sharing your experiences will be of great benefit (without turning it into a discussion) to alot of members who are desperate for help as the insurance companies are probably rubbing their hands with glee  and will certainly like DWP look for get out clauses.

Regards.

Radhika.

I think that this subject is relevant and I would certainly like to discuss it further, as a lot of members will be in similar situations, where they have been pensioned off by their employer and put on PHI at say 50% of salary less IB. If they then lose IB when it converts to ESA, then they will lose a large part of their income.

In our case it pays for me to care for my wife full time and without it we could not afford our mortgage and I would need to find work after over 12 years of looking after her. We would then need help from the state to look after my wife, so a bit self defeating really. We did not ask for my wife to be put on PHI and did not make the rules that allow the company to deduct the IB amount, but we need to find a way around this problem, if my wife does not get into the support group on appeal.
