psyical walking distance confusion was created by Josephine Ann Shelley
I have just started to fill in my esa form and have hit a wall with one question. I can walk about 75 to 100 meters but I noticed the form only gives distances of 50 and 200 m which box is best to tick... thanks for any help

You will see that our ESA guides deal with this in some detail. The quick answer is that you have to make the form work for you and are not obliged to tick any of the boxes if you not feel that they accurately portray your problems.

My partner can walk more than 15-20m but she needs to walk that distance with help and by 20m she is in pain and discomfort and she suffers from a dropped foot and tripping problems.

She cannot do this safely or repeatedly. I would make absolutely sure that your problems do not commence BEFORE 50m - if they do then maybe the distance is actually no more than 50m?

Hi

If your username is also your real name, you may wish to change it, as the forum can be read by the general public, see : My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Have you considered : Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire , whilst referring to our : ESA Claims Guides , 3rd and 4th links down, which should help with your query.

See also : How long do I have to complete the ESA50? , ESA50 too big for the envelope from our :

ESA FAQ’s , which are well worth reading.

If you are being transferred over to ESA from another benefit, our : IB, IS, SDA, Migration to ESA FAQ’s should be informative.

Hi,

Just to add, I notice that you refer to "Walking distance", please be aware that with the Moving Around Activity, (Mobilising), in the ESA50, it is not only walking ability aided or unaided that is taken into account, it is also whether you can "Mobilise" by self propelling a manual wheelchair, unaided, even if you do not usually use one.

All this is explained in our : ESA Claims Guides
