new rates ESA was created by snugglesxxx65
Hello

Had a lovey brown envelope delivered today ref ESA showing all the new rates come April 13.

We are totally confused with one issue, back page of letter shows all the rates to which the law says we need to live on etc. Our issue is with the TOP UP PAYMENT at bottom of page which used to be £15 now dropped to £13.10, not to be confused with the extra money because my husband is in the WRAG that's a different amount

I have contacted the DWP this morning they could not explain because they said the new rates had not been but onto there system, what a joke i know the new rates before they do.

Watched Panaroma last night totally disgusted by the comment that was used last night LTB's my draw just dropped.

regards

I assume that the top up amount you mention is a Transitional Payment as you were transferred from another benefit (IB?) to ESA.

This being the case, the intention of the TP is to ensure that you are not paid less ion ESA than you were on your original benefit. As your ESA payments will increase in April, the TP will be reduced by a similar amount, this will continue to be the case until the TP is completely eroded (or until April 2020), at which point you will realise any subsequent increases to the ESA rates.

I hope this explains it.

Under normal circumstances I would have expected the amount he receives in total to remain the same, the ESA should have gone up by £x/w and the Transitional Payment down by the same £x/w, if you are saying that both the ESA and the TP have gone down then you need to pursue the ESA reduction with the DWP, once this has been resloved, you can then check that the TP is correct.
