DLA renewal - what to include? was created by Nancy72
Hi - I was initially awarded HRM and HRC after a medical - for two years - due to end in May 2013. I got the renewal forms today and am totally panicked by having to go through this whole procedure again. I would be grateful for any help and advice that people can give.

I have just gone through the (very large) file I keep with all medical letters etc., in to pick out anything that may help. Several letters from different Consultants at different hospitals could be useful - although all are a year old - as most of them decided there was nothing they could do to help and so signed me off. I am now totally under the care of my GP and no-one else. Would these year old letters be of use - or is it best to leave them and just get an up to date letter from my GP?

Also I have a copy of the report which was made at my DLA medical assessment - which ultimately led to my award. Would it be a good idea to copy this report and send it in with my renewal claim - perhaps highlighting really relevant bits and making notes - saying that I am exactly the same, or worse on each section?

Many thanks in advance for any help

Hi N72,

I see that this is your first post, if you are also a new member, : Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

Even though this is a renewal, you should treat it excactly the same as if it was your first claim.

Therefore, any documentation, medical reports, etc, that you may have that are relevant to your medical conditions and any resulting mobilty limitations/care needs, should be included.

Any reports upto a year old should be acceptable, however you can use older evidence to show that a condition has history, and may be chronic and progressive. You should obviously include as much current evidence as possible also.

Have you discussed this with your G.P. ? as they can have a great deal of input into a DLA Claim/ Renewal, see :

www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/dla-aa-6pp-factual.pdf

You should read our DLA Claims Guides to help you fill in the DLA Form, there is a renewal link also on this page : DLA Guides and a lot of questions can be answered in our : DLA FAQ’s

This guide may be helpful also : www.disabilityrightsuk.org/f23.htm

Please repost on this topic if you have any further queries.

Good luck, and please keep us updated.
