DLA to ESA was created by Patricia Greetham
New to this so my appolagies for any mistakes.

I have just returned my forms to ATOS. I am at present on DLA. On average, how long before they call you in for a face to face , if they do !. And what if you dont go ?
Ime not fit for work, but what if they say i am fit ?. My carer sais we should get ready for an appeal just in case we have to. If we do go for an appeal, where do i start. Ive been going through these forums see they are really helpfull to people, and all what people have said and what to do, now ime even more mixed up
Any advice would be most welcome, Thank you

Hi Patricia and welcome to Benefits and Work,

Welcome to Benefits and Work

DLA is not being changed to ESA, did you mean to say IB to ESA?

It can take weeks or even months before you are called for a face-to-face assessment (I won't call it a 'medical') or a decision could be made without you being seen. If you were sent an appointment for a f2f and did not attend, you should expect your claim(and payment) to be stopped and your file returned to DWP. You could appeal this if you had 'good cause' for not attending, but you would not be paid until and unless the appeal was decided in your favour.

The Transfer Process

If you believe that you would not be able to attned a f2f, you should get a letter confirming this from your doctor and send it to ATOS as soon as possible. Itis difficult to get ATOS to agree to home visit but it is posible.

Your IB will be paid until a decision has been made about your ESA. If you are found to be fit for work, you can apeal and continue to be paid the assessment rate. I suggest that we cross that bridge when we come to it rather than confusing you with more information at this stage.

If you have furter questions, please come back and ask them on this thread. If you mark this as a favourite you will find it more easily in future.

Finally, it appears that your username might be your real name. Should you wish to change this, in order to maintain anonymity on a public forum, please read the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
