been on esa for a while now but dont get any payments as wife works part time. last week i was moved up to support group.i came across this, the support component is not subject to any conditions and is paid as long as claimant remains in support group. do you think this means some kind of payment is due.

dwp said i had been put in income related esa. then said as wife works 20hrs a week iwould not receive any payment this was in wrag group.then i was moved into support group and again been told as wife works part time thetre would be no payment.then i read the following ,the support group component is not subject to any conditions and is paid as long sa claimant remains in support group ...... both seem to contradict each other which leaves normal peple not knowing whats going on .

Contribution Based (CB) ESA is time limited to 365 days of payment in The WRAG, before payment ceases.

Payment of CB ESA in The Support Group (SG) has no such 365 days limit on payment for as long as you remain in The SG.

However payment of Income Related (IR) ESA in either group, WRAG or SG would still be dependent on whether you passed the means test with respect to household income, capital, assets and savings, etc, see :

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

So the relevant issue here is, are you, or are you not entitled to payment of IR ESA, not which group you are in.

If you still feel that you may be entitled to IR ESA, you should seek face to face advice,where they will have access to all your financial details, see :

Hi B,

Just to add, payment of IR ESA in either group is not time limited to 365 days, but that is again down to whether you pass the "Means Test", and therefore qualify for IR ESA.

Don't get confused between which "group" of ESA you are placed in, (WRAG or SG) and which "type" of ESA payment you are entitled to, (CB ESA or IR ESA)

I thought that if you were placed into the SG of ESA (IR or CB) then that was it you got it.

I never knew that if you were placed into the SG of IR ESA and you failed the means test you got nothing!!

So what do you do if you fail the means test of IR ESA and not entitled to CB ESA but are too sick or disabled to work??

Now massively confused!
