DLA Application was created by YoursTruly
Hello all,
I am currently filling in the application form for DLA. Question 19 Do you have any reports? I do not have a report, but I recently ( a month ago ) successfully renewed my Blue Badge, having attended an Independent Medical Assessment by an Occupational Therapist.

Would the fact that I have successfully been awarded a Blue Badge be useful as evidence of my restricted walking, or should I try and obtain the O.T.'s report?

Many thanks.

I may have a couple more questions to ask about the form; should I add them later to this thread ( brain fog at moment ), or create a separate thread?

Yes, the fact that you have been assessed and found suitable for a blue badge should be helpful although the actual OT report would probably be better if you can get hold of it.

If you have any further questions, please come back and ask them on this thread - if you mark it as a 'favourite' it will be easier to find again in future :)

Many Thanks, Mrs Hurtyback,
I phoned my local councils's Blue Badge Dept., today. The person I spoke to didn't seem to think reports are kept, yet I know they are. I hung up, and rang a different number. It was suggested that the DWP could contact the Blue Badge Dept. if they wanted evidence.

I honestly think that no-one has ever asked before. It may take an F.O.I. request to obtain a report; that takes time, and I need to send the application off soon. In the meantime, I shall give my Blue Badge No., and local council contact number, and point out that the criteria for Blue Badge are now the crteria used for HRMC-DLA.

Hi YT,

It would not be an FOI, you would have to make a formal request under The Data Protection Act 1998 to The LA administering the Blue Badge Scheme.

You can find out more about this on The Information Commissioner's Office, (ICO) website, see :

www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/personal_information.aspx

There may also be further information Re : this on your LA website.

Thanks bro58,
Another question. Should I mention on the DLA form, in relation to mobility outdoors that, when I am out, I often use a scooter hired from my local Shopmobility? Or does using a scooter count against you.

I ask because, on one occasion, daft as it may seem, I was told that a scooter was a luxury item, and that if I used one, I wouldn't qualify for a Blue Badge.

Many Thanks,
YT

The important thing in regard your DLA claim is to explain that your use of a scooter is because of your mobility issues. Remember, a scooter replaces the action of walking, and it is that walking that is being examined.

I hope this explains it.
