taking away motability was created by gingersue
Hi im new on here and have joined as i am very worried about the new PIP taking away my motability car. I work full time as a learning support assistant in a junior school i am very happy in my job. I have spina bifida and use crutches to walk as one of the things that happens to me is i fall with no warning as one of my leg collapses. I do take pain medication and also suffer from muscle spasms and trochanteric bursitis of both hips.My school are hugely supportive as i got worse since joining the school and they have taken me off certain duties to accomodate me.

I thought the whole idea of the new PIP testing was to help people stay in employment. If they refuse me higher rate mobility which i now have indefinately and take away my motability car i will not be able to get to and from work on public transport therefore have to leave my job.

Is there anyone in a similar situation as me who i can talk to and get advice from? I want to work i love my job and i am independant and confident but i am now having sleepless nights of worry over what might be! After doing the online test i reckon i score 4 so will not keep my motability.

look forward to hearing from anyone and sorry for waffling on!

Regards Sue

I think the first thing to say is that you are not alone in your concerns, but it is still too early to make assumptions as to how PIP will affect existing DLA claimants with any certainty.

It is also important to remember that the tests will take account of a claimant being able to reliably, repeatably, and safely carry out the tests, so this is not necessarily the black and white situation that it may appear.

Finally, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Work and Pensions, Esther McVey, stated in a House of Commons Committee meeting on PIP, that they will use the Access to Work Programme to aid claimants who do not meet the criteria for the Enhanced level of Pip Mobility, see
