Person with long term diagnosis of Paranoid Schizophrenia, on Incapacity benefit moved over onto ESA and placed in support group September 2012 .

Now received ESA50Jan/13 form to fill in as if never assessed , moved over onto ESA and benefit paid !

The letter accompanying it says" if you currently receive Incapacity Benefit , Income Support [on the grounds of illness or disability ] or Severe Disablement Allowance your current award or benefit will be converted to ESA only if certain conditions are satisfied "
But . This person isn't on any of those benefits now he was moved over onto ESA last year ? What's this about ?

Hi R,

As the person already seems to have been Migrated over to ESA, this Conversion Notice letter seems to have been sent in error.

You should query this ASAP.

Unless you are told otherwise in writing though, my advice would be to fill in the ESA50 and return it by the deadline given.

One of the first questions that you may wish to pose, is "how long is the prognosis on the existing SG award" ?, as the timing of receipt of this new ESA50 would indicate a prognosis of 6 months.

Prognosis = recommended length of award before reassessment.

Actually I thought it was an error and I thought given the diagnosis that anyone with an iota of sense would know this isn't going to go away so why, when the claimant has only recently been placed in the support group [Sept12]are Atos hassling him again ?

Hi R,

Please see my response to your other post :

The whole ethos of ESA is that claimants will be reassessed at regular intervals, and this will be the case until Government policy changes, or one reaches State Pension Age.

See : How often will I be reviewed , from our :

ESA FAQ’s
