ESA Appeal was created by JLP
Hi, I am new to the site and forum. I have been on incapacity benefit for many years. Recently Ive transferred to ESA WRAG. I knew nothing about any of this until I started to look on your site. I have requested by letter last week an appeal and asked them to put me in the support group. I have asked for the medical records and desicion notes they have on my claim. Can anybody advise what I do when/if they arrive? Has anyone used a solicitor to help them win? and can they help? Thank you.

Hello J and welcome to the site. This will help you find your way around here

Welcome to Benefits and Work

When you get the paperwork associated with your claim you will have a better idea of how DWP reached their decision and will be able to see if anything needs refuting. However, you should concentrate on showing how you meet the relevant Support Group descriptors, you can send extra details and evidence if you need to

[ Qualifying for the Support Group

Not many people use solicitors, I don't think. I am sure that cost is a big factor, as is the fact that many solicitors know little about welfare claims. If you do decide to go down this route you should make sure you find someone who has plenty of knowledge and experience in this area. Alternatively, you could try CAB or a local welfare rights organisation. If your condition has a 'society' you might get help there too

Where to get advice?

Finally, I note that your username might be your real name. Many people prefer to use an alias on a public forum like this. If you wish to change your username, please follow the advice in this FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

If you have any further questions, please ask them on this thread. It will be easier to find in future if you mark it as a favourite now.
