Hi I have recently been diagnosed with mild biolateral forminal stenosis because of a slightly bulging, leaking, torn, dried up disc at l4 l5. I have trouble walking because of the spasms I get and have balance problems as well, and I was wandering if I should have a go at applying for pip to see if I could get the lower rate for mobility. I did the test on here and it says that I could qualify for the lower rate, but I'm a bit dubious as my condition is only mild . Any coments apriciated, thanks. :)

Hi megsie,

The first thing to point out is that DLA/PIP are given for specific care and mobility needs, not for any particular condition.

Secondly, I must warn you that DWP do not always assess someone's condition in the way that was expected and claimants can score substantially fewer than expected in real life!

Finally, PIP has not yet been introduced for new claimants, so any claim at the moment would be for DLA. Unless you live in one of the pilot areas you will have to wait until June to apply for PIP.

All the information that we have on the introoduction of PIP can be found here

PIP

Having said all that, there is no reason why you should not apply for any benefit if you think you might be entitled to it. The country gains far more in unclaimed benefit than it looses through fraud and overpayment put together! Make full use of our guides and explain your limitations as best as you can.

If you have any further questions please come back and ask them on this thread. You will be able to find it easily in future if you mark it as a 'favourite' now.
