Confused about change in condition and DLA

I currently receive HRC DLA. An additional illness has occured and the result of it is that have severe pain and difficultly walking, all day, each and every day. I am afraid to upset the apple cart with the DWP, but things aren't getting any better for me and it has been four months now. I couldn't drive even if I wanted to, so I'm not bothered about a car. I do need a wheelchair though. Will I be forced to claim PIP? How do I go about informing them, if I do decide to do that, that I can't walk anymore? (Not without a great deal of pain and struggle). I can provide full medical evidence for this new situation. Thanks for any advice.

Hi Porridge,

You can either write a letter explaining your new problems and asking for the mobility component or you can write and ask for a 'supersession' of your claim. Either action is likely to result in you being sent a new claim form to complete.

You should make it clear that you care needs are unchanged (if this is the case) and that you are not asking for this to be reconsidered. However, you do run the risk of DWP looking at this again.

Hi P.

With regards to your PIP query.

If this change in circumstances and resulting review is before October 2013, then you should still be assessed under DLA criteria, not PIP, see :

See these 3 links for all site information on PIP :
